Early models cruise control

I have a 911s 1976 mod, with cruise control. It does not seam to be working, as nothing happens when i work the handle. Here are 2 questions:

1. Is there something more to it than just pulling the handle to make it work?
2. What are the most common issues with early cruise controls?

Search under Tempomat (the German name). Maybe that helps.
Understanding the VDO Cruise Control Amp

My cruise control is just the manual cold start accelerator....

The Bentley manual has an extensive troubleshooting procedure for diagnosing inoperative cruise controls..at least on my '85. I am facing the same thing myself-just need the time to do it.

Assume you know which way to push/pull the lever for the 3 funcions - sticker on dash or Owner's Manual.

The Bentley for the SC also has a good section on CC troubleshooting. About 90 percent of SC is the same as the mid-year cars, might be a good book to pick up. I'm not sure there's a mid-year Bentley. You see them used on Ebay pretty regularly (and on here).

1. Make sure all the vacuum lines are all good and connected.

2. The other prob is often the computer, in the trunk behind the fiberboard cover on the SC.
The solder connections degrade. Some on here have fixed theirs by resoldering all the
connections. (Use only a very low temp soldering iron - Radio Shack).

@Tcar, thanks IŽll check it out!

There is no instructions in the owners manual I have on how to operate. But I have tried to wiggle the lever in all possible directions while in speed...
