1984 vs 1986 Targa differences?
Looking to buy a 1984 911 targa. What are the differences? Is the engine a 3.2?
Any other significant differences? TIA Warner |

Go for the newest one, or the best cared for

Actually I am looking to buy a second (84) that I found in Texas and am trying to wrap myself around the differences. And do I really want two.

The vent system was improved for the 1986 model year. This carried all the way to the 1989s (that last of the G-series).
As mentioned before, the seats were improved (slightly more bolstering) and the steering wheel changed from the 3-spoke to the 4-spoke wheel. That's all I can remember. As advised, buy either the newer one or the most cared for one. If it were me, I'd get a PPI (or two), then buy the one in the best shape. I don't think smog requirements changed from 1984 to 1986. But, it'd be a good idea to have the seller smog it. I think in California the seller is responsible for the smog cert. upon change of ownership. Not a bad problem you have there (2nd 911)! |
