"Carrer" script age
 

Hello Pelicanites,

In the late 1980s I purchased "Carrera" scripts for my, one day, 911. Well, I've had my 911 for about 10 years now and have decided to put the "Carrera" scripts to use.

My question is, these stickers have been in the round, cardboard container for about 22 years now. They've always been "garaged" and seem like they're in good shape. However, I don't know.

Any opinions? I don't want to go down this road only to find out that the stickers are now useless.

What have you got to lose? Try them and see. If you find out they're useless you buy new ones...

Good point Mike. I guess I really don't want to get 90% done and then find out they're toast on the last 10%. Also, I really don't know how hard they are to remove. I imagine warm water, clean cloth and heat gun?

Use the wet install method.....removal is with a heat gun.

Whats the "wet" install method? sounds easy, is this something that can be used for all vinyl graphics?

Big bowl of soapy water....dunk the script in with the transfer tape after peeling the heavier paper backing.

Wet down the application area and apply. The water and soap allow a certain amount of "adjustment" and aids in adhesion when the vinyl is "aged".

Squeegie with a bondo spreader or other soft bendy type of scraper. Let dry, do the cuts. Peel the transfer tape and use a pin to pop bubbles. Use the spreader to smooth.

Kind of like applying window tinting then.....

Since the original question has been answered by the expert (Joe Bob), forgive me for hi-jacking....

I will be painting my Carrera later this summer and removing the current script from both sides of the car prior to painting. I was thinking about putting new "Carrera" scripts on after applying the color coats of paint and then clear coating the entire car directly over the vinyl.

I wouldn't. They age and fade. A clear coat won't defeat the effects of the sun. Wait a couple of weeks and then apply. Plus it defeats the advantage of vinyl. Changeing color and/or style is a cheap way to change the look of your ride.

Otherwise they will put a ghost image on the paint when removed and likely peel the paint as well.
