Installing stone guards need advice
I picked up a pair of stone guards from pelican. I want to install them but I want them to come out right. Anyone one have advice on this simple procedure? I live by Murphys Law, and would rather avoid a mistake.

All of the stone guards I've seen are for either SC flares or turbo flares, so you would need to trim them down for your narrow-body car I would think. Better make sure you want them before applying their strong adhesive to fresh paint; they will not be removable. At any rate, the correct procedure is to hold them up w/o removing backing and make small marks w/ non-permanent marker, find perfect placement; maybe look first at a car that has them from factory; then stick 'em on with care- no air-bubbles or wrinkles. Put a few drops of dishwashing detergent in a quart of water.
Peel the sticker and spray the back of it with the solution. Spray the car with the solution, too. Make everything nice and wet. Put the sticker lightly in place. The solution will allow it to be moved around. When you get it where you want it, press it down firmly, starting from the center and working to the edges. Let it dry and you are done. If you try to put on a sticker that large and sticky without wetting it down, you are going to have a very frustrating experience. Last edited by Jim T; 02-16-2002 at 09:02 AM.. |

When I installed mine I made sure the bottom edge of the stone guard was flush with the rocker panel moulding, then I put several small pieces of masking tape on the car along the edges of the guards so I could make a mark when dry fitting. I found it easier to start with the edge at the wheel well, then work up and out towards the other edge. You'll want to follow the arc of the wheel well and keep the stone guard just shy of the flat part (lip) of the wheel well opening. The upper corner will not follow the contour as closely as the bottom 2/3's. Hope this makes sense. Just take your time.

It may be easier or stick better in warmer weather. Still pretty cold here in the NE.
