For all the Canadians out there, you can clear items (not just those from the US) through customs yourself. It's not all that difficult, but will require a little leg work and some information which you can get from the shipper and from UPS (or whomever) which they must supply to you. Take that info to your friendly neighbourhood CBSA office and pay your GST and duty (if applicable). Take your B15 form that shows that you paid to the courier or fax it if appropriate and they'll deliver your package or you can pick it up. The brokerage fee is just the unreal fee they charge to process the paperwork and pay the GST up front. If the item is made in the US or Mexico, there is no duty because of NAFTA. I'm not so sure about used auto parts that were manufactured outside of North America, like Germany. If it's a fender, perhaps just calling it a used auto fender is acceptable... I had a pair of seat backs that got held up at customs for a month in BC. It took customs a month to send me a letter stating that they wanted to know how much I payed for the item. Normally things go through without a problem, but some times it goes wrong.

It will be there on Monday.....

I was never given the choice on shipping, but I also did not specify.
I feel as if I am being somewhat slandered (black listed) here right now. I don't want to start any wars. What am I to do now? I also have my PM's from the seller & can prove his rudeness, but I won't take it to that level. I am willing to wait a bit longer, however when a PM is ignored you start thinking that you have been scammed which is why I went to paypal. It looks like we both might end up loosing this one. |
I think you guys need to relax and let the the package get thru customs and Canada Post. It's really only been 3 1/2 weeks. It seriously could take 3 more. The Canadian post office and Customs is only marginally faster than Bangladesh or Bulgaria.

I send a lot of parts overseas, all the forms etc but use priority mail because it fits the box, they say 6 to 10 business days and it always gets there right on the 10th day but like the above you can only track it to the border which kind of sucks.
This is a problem I have always thought about? How would I resolve this same problem if it would ever happen? Maybe I will just have to make sure I indicate that I can only track it to the border unless they want to pay for UPS or Fedex..... |
If the item was properly addressed, and the postage fully paid, the "mailbox rule" might apply. Details here: "Mailbox Rule" Established Evidentiary Presumption Which Could Be Rebutted | Federal Evidence Review

All this over $75?? Give it another 2-3 weeks before panicking.

I went through the same thing, Canadian customs must be backed up. Just as I was ready to give a full refund to the buyer, it showed up.

Canadian shipping is the worst
|
Never had a problem with USPS.
Never had a problem with any of the people that shipped parts to me in Canada. The problem most likely lies with Canadian customs and Canada Post. It just takes time. Just wait and let us know what happened. If you are in a hurry, Andrew15 had mentioned that if you send parts UPS air (express) the brokerage fees are included. |
Send it insured via USPS. UPS and FedEx have customs issues.

I once had a package shipped from Florida to my home in Ontario, Canada.
It arrived in 11 days....1 day to get from Florida to the border in Buffalo....and 10 days to travel 22 miles in Ontario! Considering the difference in time and distance...Canada Post is worse than 3rd world countries. I figure they use turtles to get the mail from one city to the next. My $.02 Bob |
What was the agreement at the time of sale? Did you (Roy) agree to sell the grille with delivery included? Or did he buy a grill and tell you to ship it USPS?
If it is the latter, then the 'failure to deliver' is the buyers problem. If it is the former then, provided the part does not arrive in a reasonable time (6 weeks maybe?) you owe the buyer a refund. I think the buyer should chill out. He has evidence that the grill was shipped, and the time required for Canada Customs to clear a package is hardly the sellers problem. Don't care to wait? Pay for better delivery or buy locally. I also think the seller should remove the post showing the buyers home address. Posting personal information on other users is poor form. As someone said above:This is a fight over a $75 grill. It's not a lot of money, and isn't preventing the buyer from driving his car. Get over it. |
I had an excellent 3L crank disappear going to Canada via USPS. Ended up buying another one for the buyer.
|
Next time: Ship it to Buffalo via UPS and tell the buyer to drive the one hour and pick it up.

I posted the document as proof of shipment because the buyer had accused me of not shipping the package, shipping an empty box,Being a scammer, screwing him out of $75.00 on and on and on. This has gone on from the second week.
I have my address posted on there also so I don't see the problem. I would not tamper with the document in any way as it in its self is a body of proof. I have shipped a lot of parts over the last several years and Canada is included in that. This is the first time I have met these problems and will credit this as a learning curve and move on. I do what I can to keep people happy and am sorry to bring people down but there is a problem with shipping to Canada and the people who took time to post their problems made me more aware - Thank you. I was Rude and that is not my normal ways and for that I am sorry. Even old dogs will bite when you kick them for no reason. I will also take a longer look at Paypal and how they handle this. When you sell something and ship a product I didn't know they could remove your money from your account. We will see how this works out as I am out Payment that was refunded and a grill I have proof I shipped! |
