Talking look what Chevron Techron did to my engine!

[also posted in 924/944 forum]

no, it's not bad at all!
http://209.4.91.164/cylinder_head/techron/

i yanked the intake valves out (i left them in during the P&P) today. the valves in the head have been in there since 1979. the only thing that has ever been done to these valves is that i took them out of the head and i placed them next to my sink (because the light there was white light, and the counter was clean (unlike my work bench). i DID NOT clean these valves even with a rag before i photographed them. all i did was yank them out, tag the springs and put them on a paper towel next to my kitchen sink.

i will take pics of the intake ports of the head later and post them too.

i dunno about everyone else here, but i am SOLD on Techron. the ONLY other stuff i've ever put in was Tradco fuel injector cleaner.

so, what does everyone think? i'm pretty sure you can trust this stuff. the valves look brand new (i was worried i'd have to replace them.

[no, i'm not employed by Chevron, i just thought that everyone would like to see that there is no "snake oil" in that product. if you like what it has done to my engine then use it. i only added a bottle every 3000 miles and as indicated before, i did not even clean the valves off with a rag after taking them out of the head]

enjoy!

If you're doing a valve job in the kitchen I'd hate to think where the tranny's gonna get rebuilt. Either you're not married or your wife is tied up bound and gagged in the closet while you're doing this (Might be a few years honey!).

Talking

LOL! no i'm not doing a valve job in the kitchen! the light in the kitchen is more neutral than the garage, or studio. the kitchen countertop is white, and the lights in the kitchen are white, so when photographing the valves, the fine details were easy to see. the lights everywhere else are yellow-tinted and this makes the photos look strange when i photograph things

no, jess doesn't mind. as you can see, i put the valves on a paper towel, and i cleaned the countertop off afterwards .

all the rest of the work has been done in the studio or the garage. it was too dark outside to photograph them though. yeah, i know, i gotta get better lights out there.

Thumbs up

Obin--did some "backstory" checking in your Parent Directory and found some GREAT high speed track driving going on! Takes awhile to load but definitely worth it! Will assume that was your steady hand holding the line into and out of those turns. Nice job!

Wink

yeah, george, feel free to check that stuff out. i have a ton of pics up there that i took at Watkins Glen. all the pics on the server i took using my Olympus D-360L on standard res mode (not high res mode). they are all sized to be suitable for backgrounds on your PC.

i might take a bit of time today to neaten them up and get the dirctories better organized.

a ring went bad on the #3 cylinder. i decided to tear it down and build up a racing engine. i'm doing all the work myself, including the porting, polishing, flow-matching, balancing, etc.

i left the intake valves in until the exhaust side was done with the porting and polishing. now it's time to match the intake manifold to the intake ports on the head.

My Techron story is the result of a Pcar that sat for up to a year without running. Leakdown in #1 was said to be 95% (PWeir did this for the PO). When I PPI'd it, leakdowns were from 7 to 18%.

Talked to Steve Weiner and he gave me the lowdown on how to breathe some life back into the engine: Techron runs at high speed. I did this and now have about 3 to 5% across, though I do see oil on #1.

Anyway, I swear by the stuff for my older injected cars (280se coupe and Pcar). It's tough on rubber, but magic on dissolving deposits and cleaning injectors.

Several people on the board have recommended changing the oil within 500 miles after treating with Techron. They say it dilutes the oil slightly.
