Weber Float Shims
I need to adjust the floats on my Webers and I do not have any float shims left (or they are lost). I see that a bundle come with the float gauge Pelican sells. I was able to find the individual shims but it shows a minimum of 4 day back order and they are 2.00 each and I would need to order a variety of sizes.
It looks cheaper to but the float gauge with the shims. Does anyone know if there are a set of float shims available without buying the gauge. Thanks |
It's really easy to just bend the tab on the float to get the proper float height. That's how it's done on many carbs and it's how I've made the adjustment. I haven't had Webers for a few years now but I seem to recall the float pin being in the "lid" of the carb. If that's the case then you can set the float height by turning the "lid" upside down and noting the float position. Just bend the tab until it flops into the correct height when you tip the lid over.

There is another way: use rubber washers instead of metal washers/shims. Tighten down until you have the level you want. Stop there, put cover back on.
Or you can bend the tabs, order shim kits, hunt through your drawer of aluminum or copper sealing washers to assemble four of the right height, etc. |
