Anyone around Costa Mesa...
and know of Star European Inc (Munitech Motorcars)? They have a '86 Turbo (black) that looks nice from the online photos, but would like to get additional info before I proceed further. Thanks!

I've seen their ads. I'm wary of any car tagged with the overused "unmolested" - especially when we know there has at least been some heavy petting in the wheel area. It ranks right up there with "survivor" and "selling-for-a-friend" for setting off warning bells in my book. In quickly browsing their inventory, I see they also have other unmolested 911s - an '88 and '85 at least, and a "virgin" '86 turbo. I wonder what Freud would say?
Not saying it isn't a good car, but the ads contain enough dealer-speak that I'd want to inspect it carefully in person.

Thanks for the reply. I have the same concerns, thus would be great if anyone could add additional insight upfront on them.

I've visited Star several times. Seems like a reliable seller. My neighbors shop was next door so I saw a lot of nice cars come-and-go at Star. Did a PPI for another friend there; that car was advertised correctly and priced right.

I bought an '86 Carrera from them a year ago.
In retrospect, I didn't do a good job negotiating in that I flew down and they knew they had me. Probably paid about $2K too much, but I just HAD to have a Prussian blue 911. Compared to other cars I see for sale, I think I did OK. Not a bargain, but not a ripoff either.
Nothing was concealed, but the car is a bit rough - to be expected on a car of that age with 150K miles. It runs well, the 915 seems OK, and I have been able to restore the paint with a random orbital and some elbow grease. I will be replacing the interior. The brakes are shot, which is something that I should have insisted on being replaced before I left the place. It stops fine, but the rotor surfaces have more ripples than Kirstie Alley's a$$. So now I bought the parts from our host and look forward to doing the job myself. Oh yeah, battery tray corrosion. Not sure how bad it will be until I inspect the suspension pan "soon." The owners were decent guys, but I'll say PPI before anyone else does.
