Mine sits on 11x17 in the back with 315/35x17 (could squeeze 11.5 and 335's in there with the right wheel offset) and 10x17 in the front with 255/35x17. Will be changing the front out to a 9 or 9.5x17 as the current wheel stretches that 255 out too much for my liking.

The subject of wheel strength has been brought up in previous threads. Realize that cornering loads will probably increase with wider wheels/tires and sticky rubber compounds - all this on an original 6-7" wide wheel that is designed for 195/60-205/55 (or thereabouts) tire size.
The strength and longevity of the wheel center is in question, especially under track conditions. I would explore reinforcing the wheel center to reduce structural issues. Perhaps an overly conservative approach, but a thin, 1/4" al. spacer can be added (welded), since the wheel (diameter, offset and width) will be essentially custom-made anyway. In addition, I realize many wheels are powder coated, but that process could also compromise the wheel in terms of ease of inspection and metallurgy changes. See the archives. Comments welcome. Wheels are at the house and finally finished. I am shopping for tires and having a tough time on sizing. I can find 315/35, but no 255/35 anywhere. Any suggestions on where to find a tire (and other size options for my front 9x17 rim?

Use a 255/40 front tire.

Just in case anybody's wondering, the smaller tire recommendation is not necessarily a concern about fitment from the builder's standpoint. It's more of a performance issue. Some people with light cars have a tough time getting heat into the bigger tires. So that's why you'll see the 235, 245 front and 275 rear recommendations.
For street use, put as big of a wheel & tire under there as you want. Bigger is always better when you're having a pissing contest! |

Nitto NT555's are good for the street in 315/35x17 and 255/40x17 or NT555R's for the track in 315/35x17 and 245/45x17 NT01's for the track in 315/35x17 and 255/40x17 Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts |
I'm running Nitto NT-05s on my 9s and 11s. 235 & 275 widths. You could go up to 255/40 in front and 315/35 in the rear. I didn't, as my car is stock and I don't have the power to make use of the wider (and heavier) tires.
The Nitto NT-05s are a good, sticky tire. Only "complaint" is that I'm not getting much longevity out of them, though. They're approaching the wear bars after 4K miles (and the car was aligned when the tires were installed). The NT-01s are the near-R-compound tires for track/autoX use. Seems a bit overkill for your application. |
I've got Lindseys in 9.5x11x17. But my front suspension geometry is different than most.

I just got to unbox them today. These things look great. No complaints whatsoever about build quality or finish....excellent work from Mike Lindsey & team.
Fronts are 9x17 and weigh 18.8lbs on my likely inaccurate bathroom scale Rears are 11x17 and weight 21.0lbs I am very happy with the weight! The rears are so wide, when I unboxed them I thought for sure the rears were accidentally 12" instead of 11". After some measuring and online research about how to measure rim size, I am assured they are correct. These things make me smile! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310157866.jpg In response to the question about the offset...I'm not sure exactly what Mike put on these thing, but here are some pics that have some measurements (I'm sure I'm measuring it wrong). If you like, i can get a more accurate measurement and hopefully take some pics next week with them mounted. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310158015.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310157906.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310157938.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310157979.jpg Now I just need to find some rubber for these things! One of my shops sells Toyo R888's in that size, but it is pretty pricey rubber. I'm thinking about the Sumitomo (good price and probably good enough for a street car). Anyone have R888's? |
Jack, that car is just too good!

These are powder coated in an aluminum finish color. The black centers are painted. Mike said he used to try and bright anodize the wheels he built, but the part around the welds and the valve stem was always discolored on his builds (due to the welding media not taking to the anodization process) so he quit offering this. I think this is the same with TruDesign (but I'm not sure).
The powder coating looks great, even up close. (One pic above has what may look like a flaw next to the measuring tape, but it is actually the serial code stamp). |

Sure thing. I was expecting the rears to weigh in much heavier than what they did.

Love those Linseys. Mine are 9x11x17 with 255/40 and 315/35 Kuhmo Ecsta XS. My Turbo
Jack, I haven't been around for a while. Great to see that your car is as stunning as ever. I followed you build of BB2 way back, and she is on my PP forum top 10 list!! |
Great looking wheels!
I run 245/40 and 275/40 on mine 17x9x11. |
