What to do? SW Chip or Pre-Muffler?
Would you get a SW chip first or a pre-muffler? I have stock 1985 Carrera.
Eventually, I'll get both, but I can afford only one project right now. Thanks. |
chip first
wait and find a used premuffler whenever, $99 cheapo on e bay right now |
Muffler first
Cos SW will programe the chip for what you have done to your car. SLR. |
You need to do a pre muffler along with an M&K muffler! I just did both along with the chip and it is well worth it! You shed about 25 pounds, breathes better, and sounds perfect. A nice mellow, deeper, rumble.

I actually drove to M&K to pick things up and met Ben, he is a super nice guy and builds a great product! I cannot endorse it enough!

When I bought my SW chip there was a different one for cars with pre-muffler so you should do the latter first. I did them both at once and I recall the change was quite striking. But getting the old cat off took me two days and much cursing (+ heat + dremel), since hardly any of the bolts came out willingly.

Get both. SW chip is optimized for your exhaust set-up.

Not too bad. PB Blaster let it sit, re-apply and let it sit! I dremeled off two and those only took about 10 mins I just went part way through them and took a flat pneumatic chisel and knocked them off!

IMHO, the chip makes the biggest difference by far in terms of driveability. Although there is a difference between the chips in terms of tuning with and without the added backpressure, I think this is small. Meaning I would rather have the chip first, might not be ideal but will work fine and better than he has now on a 20 y old car and better than just the bypass alone. You can always give Steve Wong a call, he answers the phone himself and posts on this board.
