The 911 is never leaving!!!

I had to post this; it's a recent revelation I've had.

The 911 has not been driven in about five months due to various issues I've had to fix (the latest being the seats, which is done done now). In the mean time, I've been driving my 2006 VW GTI to work (an 80 mile commute through twisty mountain roads, which is great!). The GTI is a great little car, fun to drive, returns about 30 mpg, and hauls all my music stuff (amps, pa, guitars, etc.).

Since the 911 was sitting so much, it had crossed my mind to sell it. Maybe I don't need it (so I thought). My wife said NO! So, I got the 911 back on the road and was able to drive it this past week. And...

Holly crap!!! The 911 (a 1986 coupe) is a fantastic piece of machinery! It's so perfect in every way! It's fast, handles well, is fun, sounds great, is fun, is easy to drive, is fun, is fun.

What's so amazing is that I've fallen in love with it all over again. To hell with the GTI, that's just a semi-quick commuter car. I think I'll take that 911 to the grave! I"ve even resorted to sitting in it at night, just for kicks, while it sits in the garage!

Thanks to this board for keeping the PASSION going!

Al

Take the wife for a drive for a nice dinner.

My wife just laughs out loud when we spin past 3000 rpm in second.

You need to come out tomorrow if you have time, there's a few of us getting together for a drive in the Santa Cruz mountains and I'm sure your 911 wants to come out and play.

We're metting at Bianchini's market on Alpine rd in Portola valley at 7:45 tomorrow morning.

Here's the link to the thread.

Nor Cal Sunday Drive

Cheers

So I'm curious. How long have you owned the 911? You haven't driven it this way before or you forgot the feeling?

They like to be driven, and run better when driven hard.

What makes us happy keeps them happy as well.

You definitely have to keep your wife - sounds like a treasure. Mine would have let me sell mine in a heart beat.

Great tat you still have the 911. Never sell it. I know I wont

My Porsche story has similarites to yours. I sold my 1959 356A in 1978 and bought a Scirocco. Nice little car but not a Porsche. After 3 years of whining about not having a P car, my wife said "go find a good used Porsche and quit griping!" I found a nice 78 Targa and kept it for 25 years until I was T-boned in 2006 -totaled the car and almost me. Recovered fully and got a good insurance settlement and my wife again said, "go find a good used Porsche" Found a pristine 88 Targa which we both love. I still drive it regularly at age 81 and my wife and I have been each other's keeper for 61 years. I expect to be enjoying both for at least another 10 years or more.

Great story, I love the rediscovered enthusiasm! Today I took my new girlfriend out antiquing and I asked her if she thought we should take the Tahoe and she said "No let's take the Porsche...it's so much fun and we can always come back to get the truck." That was the first +1 of the day. During the day she said, "Let's go for a little drive in the canyons and do more antiquing later on". Another +1!! I think I've found a keeper, just like your wife!

Cheers fellow Porsche lovers, and the girls that can appreciate them with us!

I was at the same cross roads two years ago and actually posted about it. The car had been sitting for almost two years at my inlaws, I then drove it to my house which was 6 hours away, and my wife convinced me not to sell it after hearing about the drive.

Yep..I feel the same way. We went on a little weekend get away and took the 911....we both enjoy having the car around and she LOVES the twisties as much as I do.
The car is a classic mixture of form and function...so is a great wife. Blessed to have both.

That is excellent! I've been married 27 years and in this age, I thought that was a long time. My 82 y/o MIL is frail and lives with us, I can't imagine her driving a car. I wish you excellent health Sir.

Love that holy cow moment when you have been driving a slower car for a while then get back in the 911 and open it up for the first time.

Had one this morning as I drove the 911 to work for the first time in a while.

Gotta love it
