Ignition switch lost spring action and wont turn on
When I turn the key from OFF to ON position, it no longer switches on power from the battery. This happened shortly after the spring action between ON and START position broke (key doesnt spring back to ON when you turn it all the way to START)
My question is, do I need to replace the whole ignition lock or just the electrical portion? What is the part on pelican that i would have to buy? |
should be just the electrical portion. Just make sure and get the cast switch not the stamped switch housing. In other words the Porsche part.

I think it's the mechanical part that broke since you get no electrical contacts at all. Mine did a similar thing and after removing the electrical part (a PITA as we all know), I discovered the tab protruding from the mechanical portion had broken--it's just pot metal. The symptom was turning the key did absolutely nothing because there was no rotation of the electrical part.
If that's the case with you, the mechanical replacement is pricey, even for a used part. However, I did fix mine with very little trouble and all is now good. I'll post the thread just in case your mechanical part is the culprit. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/597665-ignition-switch-fix-mechanical.html |
Thanks guys, that write up helps understand how it works.
which part is responsible for the spring action between ON and START position? Is it the mechanical part or the electrical part? |
