Abrupt deceleration in 2nd?
 

This might be a dumb question, but I have noted that if I let off the gas pedal while in gear (mainly noted in 2nd and 1st) there is a REALLY abrupt deceleration, enough to jerk you forward in the seat. Obviously I can feather the throttle down with my foot to solve the issue but I am wondering if there might be some slop in the throttle linkage somewhere??

Any ideas? Is this normal?

Low gears w/o a decel regulator can be an abrupt change and cause rapid deceleration.

Steve Wong chip helps. Makes city stop-and-go traffic more tolerable by reducing the "jerkiness" and making deceleration a little less abrupt.

Not new to me, but I have only owned the car for about 5 months.

Just trying to work out the little bits and get it really running well.

The PO has a "performance" chip in it, but I have no idea which one.

Might want to open the DME and read the chip name. All chips are not equal. Some are outright dangerous to the health of your engine.

An 84 should have a decel device, it could have an "issue". The can get wonky after a few years of service....they are designed to slow the throttle return on decel. I've seen them do screwy things when gummed up. They work off of vacuum.

when my 84 is on the hot side of warm (idling in traffic during the summer, for instance) i have this problem as well. it's like the throttle is an on or off switch in first or second.

any idea where this thing is and how one can troubleshoot the problem?
