Sunroof stoped working

I have an 86 Carrera, last night I hit the sunroof switch and the motor ran but the roof did not move. Worked fine 2 days ago. Where should I start to trouble shoot?

Thanks,

BernieP

Sounds like the cable might have disconnected.

Here is a great thread on sunroof repair. Talks about checking the seals and cables.

Sunroof cable repair and new seals 87 911

It helped me out a lot when I was replacing my seals.

Don't mess with cables first....shaft first

I think it is the flexible shaft.

Don't mess with cables yet. Mine did the same thing and luckily I was at TRE at the time.

Dave unzipped the headliner pocket near the motor and reached in. The is a flexi drive shaft from the motor to the gearbox. It has a fitting on both end and the middle is sort of a piece of heavy flexible tubing. They break and the motor runs, but nothing gets to the gearbox.

Dave gave me a piece of hose to fix mine. I did fix it with that hose and used it as a spare.

I ordered a new one from Stoddard part # 901-564-615-06 $23.40 last time I looked out host did not stock them.

Good idea. The flexible shaft would be much easier to check then the cables.
