3.6 running poorly
Finally wrapping up my 23mm MC install and went to test drive the car after it sitting for about 3 weeks and its down on power big time! Feels like a misfire but its hard to tell. The fuel filter looks pretty old so I am going to change it. Pelican list Mahle filters but Im not sure which one replaces this one:
![]() going to pull the caps off the distributor tomorrow. Other than checking that, any suggestions? |

Can't help you there, mine is an 83 with a 91 motor. I guess you could call Pelican and ask....

Check that your distributer belt is working.

So I pulled the cap off my secondary distibutor and found that my rotor looks pretty beat up (maybe its just me)
![]() Heres the cap contacts ![]() Do they need to be replaced? also my belt is fully functional, Im pretty sure that its the fuel filter. I started up the car and gave the filter a shake or two and the idle smoothed out and the motor could rev freely. I ll have to look through the PO's reciepts but I swear the work done in 2008 showed that the filter was replaced and that was only 600 miles ago. Im picking up a filter (dont know the brand yet) tomorrow at my FLAPS and will use it till my bosch filter comes in. should I order new caps and rotors too? |

Just a crazy thought- this all occured right after installing the new 23mm MC? Not sure what year chassis the 3.6 is in, but is it possible that when installing the new MC that you left the vacuum hose that goes to the brake booster loose and you have a giant vacuum leak?

No booster, its a 75 s. I think it's been needing the filter changed for a while, looks real old, but also I drained my tank to replace the fuel lines to the fuel pump and have only put in about two gallons so I'm sure the sediment is in high concentration. I report back this evening after changing the filter.
