Steel vs. Stainless Muffler

OK, I have seen posts about the various muffler and exchangers and their goods and others, but what about for the muffler. Seems the options are VERY expensive OEM Leistritz or the Dansk/Ansa stock 2-in, one out versions. Is the stainless worth approximately twice as much? I am not expecting to be buried in the car, but any points of view are welcome. My current HE's are in pretty decent shape, but the original muffler is starting to show age (holes). Thanks.

I've been thinking the same thing. A couple of thoughts:
SS looks great and may help resale; if that’s of value.
SS has lower thermal conductivity than steel. Which doesn’t help exhaust performance.

Be careful which muffler you decide on, there are some who say putting a non-stock type muffler on an MFI car can cause problems. At this point I am not sure what to believe. If it is stock design but SS then I don't see any problems. I opted for the non-SS Dansk 2-in 1-out for cost reasons. My old muffler was so bad that if the car smoked it would come out equally both sides.

comes down to what your plans are and the money available.

if you don't plan on keeping the car, no point in wasting the money.

i bought stainless cause intend keeping the car longterm.

i also bought stainless cause i went for a dual outlet and i want it to look good without the rear valence - don't know if i will cut it for the extra hole yet.

go with what suits your circumstances.
