I'm getting ready to remove the speedo of my 87 911, and send it in for repair & recalibration. It sticks at the bottom & then jumps to normal operation at about 20-25 mph. If I tap the speedo face while it is sticking, the needle then jumps to normal operation. I'll be checking speed accuracy against my portable gps before I removed the speedo.
My question: Once I unhook the speedo & properly label & insulate the connectors, will there be any disturbance to the electrical system which will keep me from driving the car while I wait for the repair? I plan to use my gps for monitoring my speed during that time.

Well, nothing un-usual, at least not in my -72T. Been driving the whole time without the speedo. You get used to it measuring the speed via tacho.

I drove without mine for a few days when PA speedo was turning my 85mph into a 150 mph, and it didn't seem to hurt anything.
Word of advice, take the rubber seal ring, and use it for a template to cut out a circle of stiff cardboard to use as a plug. You will be amazed at the amount of air that comes through that hole, and it blows pretty much straight at your face. Tom |
