AC delete questions
 

Stripping the AC and auxiliary heat stuff, pretty much done except some of the hose lines. Had everything else stripped out in a few hours, just looking for any pointers on ease of AC hose removal. I naively thought the hoses would be the easy part. Also, the front condenser protection bar that is bolted on to the front bolt of a-arm, does this do anything regarding keeping the suspension stiff or just really curb protection for the front condenser? it did seem under load when i removed it.

The lines were the biggest PITA when I did mine. I cut my lines to get the connectors out of the way so I could pull the shortest amount through the tight spots, but I knew I wasn't going to reuse anything.

I don't think that guard bar does anything except protect the A/C, but don't take my word for it. I've been running without mine for a couple of years now.

Hoses on my 80 911SC were pretty easy. I got under the car and removed all of the brackets holding them to the car. Started at the front and pulled the line down the left side. Got in the engine bay disconnected everything. Pushed the line forward as far as I could. Got under the car and pull it down. Then starting in the engine bay pushed the line on the right side as far as I could. Crawled under the car and pulled it down. I had already removed the compressor and condensers. I think the whole thing only took about and hour.

Then I filled all of the little holes from the brackets with black silicone.

Good to go.

It's not that bad of a job...
Although you have to be patient when you are pulling them through the engine compt.I was never able to loosen the fittings in the smugglers box so i ended up cutting the copper line with a hacksaw blade.
I don't plan on ever using the AC again anyways !
You'll be surprised when you put all the hoses end to end and see how long they are ... lol

Is there an issue with the ac-gas when removing the ac? Or is it just to unbolt and let the gas out? Thanks!

In Socialist Norway ? Are you kidding ? You can be jailed for life for doing that ! It destroys the ozone. I think your family could be jailed too and perhaps all relatives forced to leave the country :eek:

bad idea to just let the gas out, not the safest either. Usually you can have it evacuated for free as the gas can be reused abd is if value. I heard some shops even pay for this, but find this hard to believe.

Mine had leaked out long ago. The front condenser had holes in it from rust.

If no gas in there, just cut them in small manageable pieces.

I wouldn't worry much about any gas being left in the lines. A full charged system lasts about 2 years for these 911's.:(

Long and heavy; 11lb 5oz of it. The connectors (cut all the hose) were 12lb 6oz while the clips and bolts/screws/washers were 11 lb 4oz.

What did you use to seals all the holes and did you use a new bolts or cut the existing one for the one that goes through the compressor bracket?
