Ign rotor options.

Hi.

I have a 75 911 and have installed MSD.
The MSD unit has a "rev limit chip" and on an effort to keep everything very simple was looking at the rotor and the mods that some have done.

Can I use a non rev limit rotor in place of my over complicated Doo Hickey.

I would do the rotor mod ... but if I can do it to a $7 rotor and not a $23 rotor the better as I see it.

are the rotors "clocked the same ?

This is what I have .

can I use this ?

Use the one without the rev limiter. In fact I used the one from a Porsche 912. The reason: To much resistance in the Rev limiter model and it shorted out during an autox. This applies to MSD not the stock CDI ignition.

Or just disable the rev limiting one so it won't function.

Where is the difference in resistance in the rev limiting rotor vs the stock rotor since the rev limiting shorts the spark to ground when reacting? I would like to know since I am running a MSD ignition using a rev limit rotor. The last thing I want is to lesson the spark current. Just a question. Jim

Probably I'm not understanding your question but the fact that the rev limiting rotor is shorted to ground when your limit is exceeded is irrelevant. The only thing you care about is the resistance (or lack of it) in the rotor when it is operating normally.

The problem is there is to much resistance for the MSD. There is a thread about all the choices. I found the 912 one had very little resistance but other choices where from early VW's.

thanks ... I ordered the $7 one and will do the "mod"
