OK to replace rings w/o new cylinders?
Just got a quote for my 3.2 valve guide repair, about $2500. Interestingly, they mentioned it included new rings along with new exhuast valves and all new guides. Is it OK to install new rings in aged cylinders?

Yeah. Everything you ever wanted to know about pistons rings, but were afraid to ask. The only thing we've talked about more than piston rings is Cool Collars. And V8s, but I deny any acknowledgement of that.

Has anyone tried fitting a Cool Collar around a cylinder?

Brilliant. Even more intriguing is the prospect of fitting a cool collar around another cool collar. In fact, if we cool collar everything, we may have trouble getting our engines up to operating temperature. Might have to install an engine heater and thermostat.
