curious question, automatic tranny?
I was just curious cause I'm in the market for a starter car for my daughter. Did Porsche make an early 80's 911 with an automatic transmission? Seems like they all have the 915 tranny.

Porsche made the "Sportomatic" in the 70s but by 1980 it was gone.
It's not a proper auto because you still have to shift the gears but there's no clutch pedal. Instead there is a micro swith on the gear leaver that disengages the clutch. Meanwhile it has a torque converter as well so it really is unique. Lots of Porsche guys hate them but I drove one for about 6 months when I was working in New Zealand (15 years ago) and I kind of liked it. You can get a 924, 944 (I think) or 928 in automatic.

ok thanks for the response. I was just curious. I've been looking at 944's but it would be cool to get her a 911sc like mine. You know, in case I need parts. haha

If you want to get her a Porsche, why not an early Boxster? Lowish HP. Tiptronic automatic. <$10K. Only seats two (limiting the number of distracting friends she can bring along). And a 10-15 year-old car is more likely to be reliable than a 25-30 year-old car.
