Question intermediate shaft bearing question

From reading rebuild reports on this board and elsewhere, it seems that the I.S. bearing is not as long lasting as the rest of the bottom-end on 911 engines. We've all heard of the 300,000 mile SC motors, but ISB seems to be worn on every report, even at 100k miles. Question: what are the implications of driving w/ worn ISB's? Noisy? Catastrophic engine failure? TIA.

Denis, I don't know all the failure modes but I remember one...
My 65 911 years ago beat up the rear most bearing (the thrust bearing) and allowed so much movement in the shaft that it chewed up the chain gears releasing all kinds of junk into the engine. I don't know how common that is but it happened to me.
Noise is certainly one of the symptoms.
