Turn signal gremlin
Hi all:
In my 79 SC, right side turn signal blinking rapidy. Mechanic replaced relay; fixed that problem. HOWEVER, now, whether L or R turn signal activated, BOTH speedo turn signal lights flash simultaneously. I have searched the posts but didn't find any similar problem. Anyone have any idea of what is causing this? If it's an easy fix, I'll do it myself as opposed to having to lose the car for a day and having to find a ride to and from the mechanic. FYI, I pulled the speedo to install LED replacement gauge lights and everything seemed to be connected back there. Thanks for all your help!!! Steve G |
Steve, first check to make sure your turn signals and brake lights are working as they should- flashing properly, brightness is correct etc.. I'll bet you'll find the source of the problem..
|
look for the flaky ground!!!!!!!!!!!! (Or, bad light bulb).
Best! Doyle |
Neel, thanks, I checked all the turn signal bulbs and they and the brake lights all work fine. Ideas?
|
Mine does that too, maybe someone has the answer.
|
Ok, now check everything again with the running lights on..

Check the bulb wattage. You have to draw the correct amount of current. Check your cars schematic and make sure they are all correct.
I suspect you have some low wattage bulbs somewhere. |

I'm not a wrench but the last time my '80 SC was in the shop the turn signal relay went dead. My mechanic had a replacement relay in stock but he wasn't sure that it was correct.
The replacement fixed the turn signal issue but now under certain circumstances both lights on the speedo will flash simultaneously so I suspect the relay may have something to do with it as all light bulbs were proactively changed last fall. Could use of the incorrect relay cause this issue??? |
of course an incorrect relay will cause weird stuff to happen.
