pull spark plugs if car has been idle?

I need opinions as to whether the spark plugs should be pulled before trying to start a car that has been setting for a year. I was told it was necessary to spin the motor with the plugs out so that there would be no hydraulic lock. Porsches supposedly will leak oil into the combustion chamber because of their flat configuration. Mine has 65,000 miles of an older female driver. 1980 SC.
Whaddya think???

Great advice, or just rotate, by hand, the engine through 6 complete cycles. sitting for a year is not that long. And most of the oil is below the cylinders.

I would spin the motor without the plugs to build oil pressure but not for hydro-lock fears. Crank it by hand as James says then spin it with the starter and look for pressure registering on the gauge.

If you look at this cross section, there is not a lot of ways the oil can go up. After a nights rest it all has found its way to below the cylinders. Several quarts of oil in the tank will flow into the case given eight hours.

I'd certainly crank it over on the starter to move oil to each cam. Not sure on the risk of hydro locking the cylinders. Can't see it but I'm far from an expert.

Just turn the engine two turns backwards if you are worried about the cylinders filled with oil.

Please don't turn the engine backwards.
