Replacing oil lines with flexible lines
 

Hello, I'm wondering has anybody replaced their hard oil lines (the ones that run from thermo to oil-cooler) with a suitable flexable hose line? The idea came to me as I was dealing with a industrial hose dealer for work. Has anybody done this?

There are plenty of people who have done it successfully, and it works well. The flexible lines don't dissapate heat like the stock metal lines do though. Try a search, there are a bunch of threads about it including brands, types, sizes, fittings, etc.

Thanks, heat is not too much problem here, so sounds like an option. What should I be typing in for the search, I tried before and was going down the wrong road. FYI, it snowed here last week and evenings have been around/below 32F. Lots of time to work on the car....

My '79 SC racecar has nothing but flex lines on it, except for the rubber S-hose that supplies oil from the tank to the oil inlet below the engine oil cooler. Apparently somebody didn't like the factory lines and decided to do everything in stainless braid flex line and AN fittings with the appropriate AN-metric adapters where needed to connect the lines to the oil tank and thermostat.

Flex lines are nice for routing, especially when you're changing the route from what the factory originally did. Like when running a center front cooler or installing a forward mounted oil tank. However the cost can add up real quick for fittings and hose. Large AN fittings like -12 and -16 are fairly spendy, as is the hose. Plus the hose doesn't last forever. I've got some hoses that have become stiff/less flexy. I suspect they're about 10-15 yrs. old and will need to be replaced in the near future. Whereas the solid lines are very durable and last the life of the car. Plus, more fittings = more opportunity for leaks.
