69-73 front bumper mounting & support Qs
Hello
My front bumper is attached to the car only by the four bolts (2 on each side) that go from the front trunk area (near the headlights/battery boxes) into the brackets attached to the bumper (with the captive nuts). There are no other brackets attached to and it is not supported anywhere else. As a result, it hangs down awkwardly at the outer edge (where it terminates at the wheelwell) on both sides. Should there be some sort of support bracket on each side? Looked at a 67S and it had support tubes in this area. But my understanding is -68 have a different setup. I'd really like to fix this. Any advice or info is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, there is a support bracket that attaches to the side of the battery boxes. The bracket is shaped like this, ] with the top and bottom "legs" as attachment points for bolts--the top leg for the fender, and the bottom for the bumper. The bumper itself should have a welded bracket that will bolt to the support bracket.

And it's a significant piece of metal on mine, maybe a bit less than 1/4" bar stock?

Then if you do a battery box delete in order to add a fender mounted oil cooler you can build a bracket something like this to replace the one that was attached to the battery box. Before and after

Also, here's what the corresponding bracket looks like on the inside of the front bumper, albeit this is a fiberglass bumper I'm sure a stock steel one has something similar.

Aha!
Ok....the bumper itself does have the inside brackets. And the battery boxes are still present and have the holes. So I just need to find the fasteners and correct legs or make something. Thank you all for the descriptions and photos!
