Porsche Supercup at Laguna Seca, would you attend?
We have a 5th event weekend to fill at Laguna Seca this year.
I'm on the competition committee for the track and thought I'd see if Porsche would be interested in running the Supercup cars at an event other than F1. They'll be at Indy the weekend before our race so I thought maybe they would consider it. Well, it looks like it might happen. I am wondering what kind of response we'd get in terms of interest so I'm starting a pole to see what you guys think. It will be the weekend of October 5/6, we'll probably have the PCA club racers here as well (an unlimited noise weekend at our track is rare for club racing). We are also considering a vintage GTP race with the old Jaguars, Toyota, Ford and of course the 959/962's. So, let me know what you think of a weekend like this. It's going to cost us some bucks to pull it off and I'd like to see what we might expect in terms of interest. Thanks. Bruce Herrmann |

I think this is a great idea and it is always nice to see tracks lining up new events. Unfortunately I already have my race / vacation plans lined up for this year but if it becomes a permanent stop I'd consider making the trek from the East coast in the future.
Good luck!

Love Monterey! I would consider it, but October is still a long way into the future. If my workload is light by that time it's a go!
For sure, I'll be attending the ALMS weekend at Sears Point this May. Planning on taking the 'Blue Bomber' Anyone else going to this event? (May17-19)

I'll be there for the Super Cup. I'll call in sick if I have to.
![]() Doug, I'm going to try to attend the ALMS in May, but usually fire season is in full swing by then, and it's tuff to get my full set of days off. Or if I plan something I end up having to work. ![]() |

Matt, and any other Nor-Cal's.....
I'd love to meet you at Sears Point! Man, have you seen what they are doing to that old place? I've always loved the "Point", and am really looking forward to going there again. Last time was for the AMA Superbike races in '98. And Matt....hope for a wet Spring and maybe you can get race weekend off. Otherwise, keep an eye on those beautiful forests and olive groves. ![]()

Thanks for the responses! I'm just a bit nervous about pushing this event, competition for the race dollar is tight. We can't afford to run an event in the red. I think we can pull it off and come out in good shape. I'm trying to put together a large Porsche vendor area, Pelican is the first to sign up. We'll have a Porsche parking corral etc.
You'll be surprised to see the changes at Laguna next to you visit. We broke ground on our new garages/hospitality suites last week. They will not be complete for the CART event in June but should be done for the Supercup race in October. It will be a great addition. FYI, our ALMS race advance ticket sales are way up this year, that's another race you should try to attend. Bruce |

OK, who's the guy that voted for "What is Supercup"?
I'll be there, no doubt.

I'll be there at Sears for the ALMS as I have the past two years. I live close enough that I make two of the three days. Usually Sat and Sun. I'll also be there for the Wine Country Classic. As for the track renovation I get posts almost every day from there giving progress reports. This is going to be a premier site once finished. Now if they could put in a tram from the top of the parking area to the paddock that would be great. Feel like part mountain goat when I have to climb back up to the car to get water etc.! As for the shuttles...Never could figure out the right route and always got the grand tour when taking one!
The Supercup is a great idea but if it is going to happen I think you are going to have to do some heavy nationwide advertisement in places like Autoweek, Excellence, and maybe even the (ugh) Speed Channel.
