allen key size on muffler strap hex nuts??

ok its taken 12 hours (with the help of a local shop) to get the cat. off, clean up the flanges and replace with new nuts/bolts.

now i need to remove the muffler straps and they appear to be held by allen headed nuts (like the heat exch), anyone know what size allen i need.

thanks in advance

i'm covered in crap so i'm going to have a long hot bath!!

8 mm. Good luck!

One point to about allen head sockets or wrenches. I have found that the cheap ones from discount stores can vary in tolerance quit a bit. Thus a 10mm wrench might actually be a 9mm or 9.5mm. Which just strips the head out if the bolt is frozen. So I recomend buying the higher quality ones. The muffler straps shouldn't give you too much fuss, but on thigs like heat exchangers, or the starter bolts, you need the good stuff.

Two possibilities here ... the muffler strap uses M10 fasteners ... so, if it is an Allen bolt, it would be an 8 mm hex drive bit or key. But, barrel nuts on M10 fasteners take 10 mm bit or key!

The strap bolts can seize up as well. Mostly due to crud, not heat like the exchangers. I couldn't get one of the bolts to back out, so I had to snip the strap. Good luck.

just ordered new straps.

can you believe those f&^%$£s are £20 ($30) each!!

i'll make sure i buy a can of grease..............

I would suggest anti-seize instead of grease.
The grease will dissappear after a while, but the anti-seize will hang in there for years.

bob i'll look out for it......

thanks
