How to remove the front spoiler/valance
Hi all, just spend the last two hours trying to remove the front spoiler/valance on my car for some de-rusting/painting.. I located all the screws.. removed the black bumpers, removed the screw that holds the spoiler to the body thru the wheel arch, but the two nuts (per side) next to the battery just keep turning and turning but they don't come out... I can see them turning from the horn grille, I can reach the back of the top one with my hand thru the horn grille and I can feel the nut turning.... but nothing.. does not want to get out...
What I'm missing?? Thanks in advance |
The problem is that the nuts on the other side are square, and run in a channel that is supposed to allow adjustment, but still hold them from turning. Unfrortunately, the channel is very weak.
So essentially your going to have to remove the channel (It's just a flimsy slotted box) and grab the square nuts with vice-grips or the like. Taking off the horn grills will help for the top ones, but the lower ones can be a bear with the battery boxes in the way, if I remember right. Good luck! |
I've have also been trying to work out how the front bumper comes off as I want to remove the bumperettes - how do these come off?
Cheers |
Steve, on my car (73.5) open the hood, remove carpet and spare tire, locate and remove the plastic covers (round covers, four of them) on the front cross panel of the car (vertical surface), it takes a 13 or 14mm tool to remove the nuts.. be careful with the bottom ones, normally are very rusted and may break (don't ask me how do I know..). Let me know if you need any other details or pictures. Good luck.
Tyson, thanks... is going to be challenging to try to grab anything inside that small space with my big hands thru the horn grille... but as the say in the Marines.. you don't have to like it, you just have to do it! Regards |
Thanks Jordi
The Haynes manual is more like a quiz in this regard. I took the off in 5 min looks much better even with the gap in the rubber. Next step is to make it look like a 911 R Cheers |
