Need Pics of '82 Rear Seat Strap Setup

I just recently purchased a 1982 911SC. I am going through the car now doing an assessment on all the work that needs to be done. Also, trying to learn all the controls, ins and outs, etc of the car.

One question, how do the rear seats attach to keep the seat backs up? I have seen the leather straps, which appear to be broken on one side. The PO might have replaced the rear speaker deck panel. I can order the parts, but trying to understand how it all goes together. Any pics would be most helpful.

Thanks,

Chuck

I can take a photo later, but if you look at host's site, they have part diagrams which show you the parts. it is basically a little strap on the seatback with metal snap (like on a jacket) and a corresponding snap on the rear panel. Pretty low tech. Later they came up with a locking hinge instead of the strap but the SC uses the strap.

I have the parts catalog and know what it looks like. I just need to understand how the diagram translates to reality.

Thanks,

Chuck

A good question. Though I have yet to 'get in there', I can see that the carpet on the seatbacks must be torn (pried) up (glue and/or staples in there), and the new strap nailed/screwed in place. That would be the female end. The other end, at the rear deck, is pretty obvious, at least on my '86, it just screws on.
So, I too, would like to read how, though I am sure I can just carefully pull up the carpet on the seatbacks and replace the straps. I believe they just "tack" into place. They become brittle and are useless as far as their structural integrity is concerned after so many years of aging.
There are 2 diferent lengths, too, one is fairly long, but that might be for cars earlier than SCs/Carreras.....some photos from someone would indeed be helpful to many folks, I'm sure....or at least info on getting at them. Thanks.

see photos; strap is held with staple, snap on rear panel with screw.

Thanks for the picture. Do you have a wider angle version of the snap on the speaker shelf panel?

Thanks,

Chuck

There appears to be a difference in straps between shelves with and without factory speakers from looking at the parts PDF.

I think Matt's set up with the shelf strap pointing towards the ground is correct. I have removed and re-installed mine several times and must have put mine in the up position which would not hold the seat as well with a fast stop. Thanks Matt!
