Help identify bracket on rear bumper shock
Hi gang-
I'm trying to identify a bracket adjacent to the driver side bumper shock tube on my '78 SC. Anyone know what this was for, and can I modify it or even remove it? Looks to be factory welded in place. Thanks.

I ground it off my 77. I figured it was how the factory secured the body during assembly and shipping. It also looked like the prior owner had used it for a flatbed tie down, and it wrinkled up pretty good.

The tow hook eye slides into that piece. I think there should be a round black cover on the bumper to remove first.

Follow up question on this: Is this designed for the 'extended tow hook' as opposed to the threaded tow hook?
My tool kit does not have a tow hook so trying to figure out the most appropriate one. Thanks jb
