I believe our host sell them. I purchased the 14-pin connector a couple of years ago. If you can't find it online try phoning and ask for Jason. He is the guy for the older 911's.

Thanks.

It appears the pins supplied are the "male" pins. Anyone know where to source the "female" sockets that live on the engine harness plug?

I have been there before, with visa. Apparently concerning the 14 pin connector only the male pins go bad. There is a joke in there somewhere. Actually I would like to add a female socket to make use of a previously unused male pin. The pin is a switched 12V into an empty socket on the engine harness side. All in a quest for neatness.
|
The male pins are roughly 1/8 inch. Any tube guys still out there? I know some vacuum tubes still exist so what about sockets. Were or are tube pin sockets different sizes? I aint young but this is still before my time. Any thoughts?
The sockets exist on the car in otherr capacities. Examples: round relay pin sockets (at $70 a shot I will find another way), the fuel level sender plug, two plugs at the aft corner of the engine compartment (tail light connectors?). I am sure there are others. |
I have pulled a bunch of useless wiring out of my racecar. I can look thru what mangled stuff I saved and see if there's a female cooch in there for you.

No need to do that I will follow a different path. I wanted to use an unused pin on the 14 pin connector for an Ignitor II install. Would have made, I think, for a very neat switched 12V supply for the new device. I could have laced it in and in the event of a return to points it could have been left in place. I am attempting to follow the self imposed "porsche-cratic oath" where the main rule is "do no harm to the factory harness."
I think I've got it figured out. One of those deals where my vision and reality diverged a bit. |
Finding a Porsche in a wrecking yard is unlikely (I always ask and I haven't found one yet), however, there are plenty of Mercedes, Audis, VWs and Volvos that can be salvaged for electrical connectors. Take along your wire nippers and cut out the plugs of your choice. They often are similar if not identical to those used on our cars.

I don't know what those are called right off, but I bet Jameco has them.
Jameco Electronics - Electronic Components Distributor However, this thread is giving me flashbacks of a painful ignition switch project I had. |
I have both but they are not cheap. They are quickly becoming unobtanium.

What I am going to do is connect to the lower fuse "block" in the engine compartment. It would also be nice to have some of those tiny crimp sleeves that the factory terminated the wires with at the fuse screw block. I have found something that will work for a termination and I will add a connector to keep the entire engine harness "disconnectable" i.e. not hard wired, for the next time I find it necessary to drop the engine.
I will do no harm to the factory harness but the installation will not be as "slick" as the concept idea. I haven't counted but I am sure to be at revision H or J by now. Normal for my projects. |
