Insulation........

When I did my coupe, I started at the rear window and went all the way to the front firewall, including the inside rockers. Here's a picture.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1308057300.jpg

Doing it this way took 11 sheets of approx. 4 sq. ft each.

Soundproofing......

I put the carpet on top of the Dynamat. The only exception was in the rear window/package tray area where I cut a piece of pegboard to put under the carpet. I considered putting in a layer of foam or fiberous material but finally decided to not do so. The car is as quiet or maybe slightly more quiet than when in it's original configuration.

Some examples I found in various threads... I was thinking about doing this to my car.

i am also putting 1/8th closed cell foam with adhesive on the celing and on top of the ballistic (dynomat) on the doors. with the adhesive it acts as a sound deadner also with the foam..........for the floor putting 1/4 inch foam with mass loaded vinyl from the rear glass to the front peddles......the foam with mass vinyl is heavy 40 sq ft weighs about 46lbs....

Soundproofing Foams

great guys over there randy was alot of help knows his stuff......

ballistic sound deadner i bought it for 36sq ft. for about $135

Ballistic SSBK 36 ft. of "Silence It" Sound Dampening Kit for

will be posting more pics when i start to lay in the foam

RWebb 06-19-2011 10:36 PM

there is no need to put dampening material all over - little gain once you go beyond 25-50% coverage on a panel

kinein 06-19-2011 10:46 PM

just adding foam now the 1/8th foam has adhesive so it can stick to the ceiling but thats it for up there. and on the door panels.......its my daily driver never goin to track it yeah i saw some of the guys doin patches on there panels with foam i have big tires load exhaust you can here the road in my car and the exhaust so just tryin to trim it down some

The Focal sound proof foam product we use has the foam mounted directly on the matting. works best but man its not cheap. something like 12.00 a sq ft! works awsome though, we line all of our custom boxes with it. What are you doing for product/system in your beast?

That's true but most people get carried away. ;)

Speaking for myself I would want to cover every square inch because the carpet would look neater when I was done. Thoughts???

using more than needed will not change the way your carpet looks, all you are doing is wasting time, money and energy. the purpose of a cld (dynamat, second skin, etc) is not to block sound but to control vibrations. that's why you only need 25-40% to be 100% effective. clf and mlv need 100% coverage.
