Need help identifying this clutch throwout bearing: (pics)
This last weekend I was able to attend Dr. Evil's 901 transmission rebuild clinic - highly, highly recommended. (thread here: 912 Board - Viewing Topic: Who wants to see a little tranny porn?). Anyway, out of my 901 donor box (from a '65 912) I pulled the below throwout bearing and arm. This bearing is significantly thinner than a stock one (by at least 1/4"), and sits flush to the shift fork rather than needing bushings. Dr. Evil (Mike Lesniak) looked at it and said, "I've never seen one like that, which makes it rare, so save it because someone's going to need it". So, does anyone know anything about this type of arm and bearing? Is it unobtanium, or something out of a VW bus?
Thanks, A ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm surprised Dr Evil has never seen this bearing before. It was standard on all Porsche 911/912's built prior to 1967, and 356 S90/C/SC models with 200mm clutches. It's available from Pelican as a 356 C/SC release bearing, number 901.116.081.01, for $307.75. The bearing with the plastic clips, number 901.116.081.11, was standard on 911/912's from January '67 through '69, and all 914 models.
