Hi-beam problem
I am having a problem with the hi beams on my 83 911 - when I push the lever forward to engage the hi beams, nothing happens. However, when I pull the lever towards me to "flash" the hi beams, I get a wonderfully bright glow. My questions: is there anything which would solve this problem other than a new lever switch. I don't want to rip apart the whole thing w/o having a replacement switch on hand if I am going to need it.
Thanks Adam |
I have the opposite problems.....high beams work but I can't flash. I think the switch must be replaced. It is on my list of things to do.

It has happened to me too. You have to replace the stalk switch -- it's a lot of fun too.

I'm afraid the previous posters are right-- and they are a pain to replace. Just be happy you don't have a '75, where they fail more regularly than deck lid struts!

From previous experience, mine high beams would turn on when I had the lights on made a turn. It got rather annoying and I was not the one getting blinded!
I had to replace the whole stalk. Good luck! |
Assuming the electrical contacts and the plastics are not broken I believe you can bend the contacts to make it work again.
I am pretty sure someone here has done this. You might want to do a search. Then again, you will probably need a new one soon enough. I am sure my day will come soon too. :( Good Luck. |
I did the bend the contact arms routine
It worked but not for long on my 87. But just as frustrating - after I replaced the switch with a switch from the dealer, I am no longer able to flash the hi-beams - now I have to just wave to all my fellow Porschephiles. Take Care SmileWavy - but now - it is more personal!

well, that's it, I'm taking the pull and swap approach. I just bought the switch and can't wait to start a dismantlement project! Actually, timing is pretty good because I've been waiting for a free weekend to switch my tired, faded and worn 3 spoke steering wheel for the new MOMO that's been sitting in my garage!
