I have a 89 - 911 Cabriolet and I am wondering what is the better choice; Bilstein Sports or HD for a cab? What torsion bar size would you suggest for a cabriolet, 21 or 22's for the front, 27 or 28's for the back? Will the ride be to harsh? Thanks for your input. The car is mainly used for everyday street driving.

For street driving, I would stick with HDs and stock torsion bars (19/25). If you're planning to incorporate track time in the near future, go with the Sports with 22/29. I understand a strut brace would improve some for Cabs (for track or very spirited street

Maybe KONIs, if they are adaptable. You can adjust them to the ride quality you prefer at the time.

I have Bilstein sports, 22,28 torsion bars and 22mm front and rear adjustable sway bars. I wanted a car that was good on the track, but acceptable on the street. This combination on my 89 coupe is quite pleasant and seems how a 911 should handle. Since I am usually the sole drive, I don't have to worry about other occupants. For the track, I just slide the bars as far as they can go and the car stiffens even more. If you don't loosen the sway bars up, you get alot of creaking and groaning. I also have adjustable spring plates with polyurethane bushings. These supringly up to now have been noise free. I had the Bilsteins on for a year before changing the torsion bars. I noticed little ride quality loss. If you are not interested in track, and your car would need some sort of roll bar to qualify, I would consider 21/27. You still are considerably stiffening your car from the stock settings.

What wheels have you got? If you have the leightweight Fuchs there's no problems in HD. However if you have heavy replica wheels it might be a better idea to go for the Sport ones. At least that's what I'm doing. |

Sports are too stiff in compression for the front of a 911 - better to go HD on front, sports on rear.

Thanks for all your replies. I have 17" twisted (boxster style) rims on the car. I am going to go with HD's on the front and Sports on the back with 21/27mm TBars and will upgrade to turbo tie rods for now. I'll have the car corner balanced and a all wheel alignment & balancing. Looking forward to it. "Can't Wait!"
