Removing Bumper Guards

I'd like to remove the bumper guards from the bumper on my 71. It looks like there are 2 bolts holding each of these on. It also looks like I will need to remove the bumper to get at the nuts. The question? Are the bolt holes in the bumper noticeable after removal of the guards? Anyone done this and have a closeup photo? Thanks. -- Curt

Gosh Curt, the deed was done to my car so many years ago, I can't remember about the holes. I do know I had to get new trim rubber. Once you've pulled the bumper, it should become more obvious, I'd think..

I was afraid the top bolt might go thru a hole above the rubber deco strip. Apparently, it doesn't or you would have 2 holes exposed. Must go either thru the rubber or both bolts are under the deco strip, according to the diagram I'm looking at. I guess I'll pull the bumper and find out! -- Curt

When you remove the guards, you will find two gaps in the trim moulding. You'll need to replace your entire bumper trim with a solid piece, that is intended for use without the guards. The new trim will cover the old bolt holes.

If our gracious host can't sell you the front trim piece, Doc 'n' Cy's in Indianapolis has it for a very good price. 800-950-0356
