Passenger Window Problem
I purchased my '89 911 last Sept and have been lurking picking up tips. Modifications so far are a SW chip and strut braces. Here is my problem:
I took my passenger door panel off to replace door hinge. When I reassembled I also replaced the window switch per the Bentley schematic. Now I can raise & lower passenger window from the drivers side but the passenger side is not working. Worse yet after trying the passenger switch the driver switch stops working until I turn key off then back on. Any ideas? I was hoping to replace spark plugs but am holding off on that until I can get the passenger window fixed... Thanks |
Welcome to Pelican, fellow Michigander!!
I would first re-check the wiring on the passenger's switch. It sounds as if the common wire from DS is wired incorrectly. (It's easy to do, even when using the Bentley). Also, do you have the option for power staying on when the ket is turned off but the doors are not opened(like a new car)? If so, that be part of the problem. This knucklehead had a similar issue ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/422032-need-power-window-wiring-help-already-searched.html |
Just a thought.... did you make sure to put a nice coat of silicone grease on the window rails and the gears?
I had a stuck window and it turned out to be just stuck on the rails. A new coat of grease made it work like new. If the window goes up or down just slightly when you push the switch, it's possible this is your issue. RSTarga is right... I didn't catch the info about being able to open and close it from the driver's side. My mistake. |
It goes up and down from the drivers switch, so it is wiring.

Thanks Wayne-
I've got Pelican stickers from orders all over toolboxes.... I'll check out your suggestion and let you know... |
Well I'm half way there... Now I can control the passenger window as before with the DS switch but I can only go up with the PS switch. Any suggestions?
Thanks again... |
I would confirm that you are sending power to the motor when the switch is in down position. New switches, especially aftermarket, have been known to been bad out of the box.
