Autothority MAF setup instructions
 

Hi - Just wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram or a installation instructions or even a few photos of their loom for a Autothority MAF.

I recently purchased one secondhand but and I have heard that Autothority will refuse to give out any information unless you buy directly from them which is probably the reason they ignored my email requests!

The Red wire obviously goes to a live feed but not sure which is the best to use and I'm guessing that the green wire that is cut simply joins the other loose wire?

Does this look like a stock setup?

Any company who doesn't offer technical support for their product,even if it was purchased used should be run out of town with tar and feathers ...

I would send them another email and tell them where they could stuff their looms !!!

On another note,i'm sure somebody will come up with something on this forum as there are a lot of knowledgeable people !

The challenge is that the current Autothority isn't the same company as the one that Al Collins used to own back when he and Joel developed all the Porsche software and MAF hardware. They sold the company to the current owners some time back and the current owners have no interest in supporting anything they didn't sell.

It's very sad when you consider that Al was a pioneer in the software business way back in '83 when he first started with the DME chips. Then a few years later when he developed the MAF. I'll have to dig deep into some old boxes for the wiring diagrams... Al used my previous '86 to dyno and develop the original MAF, and I still have the first one he made. But it's been 15 years since I'd had it on a car so I'm not sure where the wiring diagram may be.

that is the normal set-up. The green wires are not used or connected. The fine wires on the POT are quite fragile and are normally taped in with the whole works, with the screw on the POT accessible. The red wire goes to a 12v source that is switched with the ignition (not live all the time). Their instructions say to cut into the Idle Control Valve harness and tap in there. I took 12v switched from the coil. Others have taped into the little fuse panel in the engine bay, but mine were always live.

You also need to install the Autothority chip, or a custom one, to make it work.

I don't know why the green wire is on both connectors if it isn't used but good to know as I would have done the obvious thing and connected the two broken wires.

The fine wires on the pot are incredibly small and fragile. I'll re-heatshrink the harness and possibly remove the two green wires.

Thanks for all the help chaps, just for interest, I don't suppose any of you have any photos of the unit installed do you?

SmileWavy It's been a while since I last posted on this thread as I've been running my rebuilt engine in.

The current setup of stock air flow sensor with cone filter means that the filter is tucked up right at the back of the engine bay getting loads of heat soak and is fairly restricted.

For the stock air flow sensor it is fairly easy to adjust the position of the filter to give it less restriction and more cool air so I have played around with running this setup.

The Autothority MAF is slightly longer that the stock air flow meter and this is an area where I am very tight for space already. What I would like to do is to bring the cone filter right down to the rear of the engine bay above the chain cover where there is more space and a great area for lots of cool air.

The problem that I have is the stock meter uses a 3" dia tube whereas the MAF air filter has a 5.25" dia fitment. This is not a size that is readily available either in silicon tube or stainless or ally, especially if you need quite a tight mandrel bend in it.

Has anyone had this problem before or can think of a good solution - I'm not sure whether reducing the tube dia will have any negative affect or not and the only other thing I car think of is to make a snorkel set up on the inside of the engine cover to give it a ram-air type affect.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome :)
