Bosch CDI Wiring Help
Well Perma-tune refuses to function when hot, so I'm ready to replace. Now I have a question about wiring.
The car is a 68, engine is a 69S with Webers, but the Perma-tune has a circular 6 prong connector. I have a rebuilt Bosch 3-pin CDI that I would like to replace the Perma-tune with. 1. Why would a 69 have a 6-pin connector? The car has points in the dizzy. What are the extra wires running? 2. Can I revert this back to a 3-pin setup? If anybody can help I'd appreciate it. ![]()

Yes you can revert back to the Bosch CDI. The wiring from the CDI should be: A, goes to the #15 of the coil. B, is the 12 volt input for the CDI. C, goes to the distributor points. D is ground.

A 69 uses a 3 pin connector.

Hi Pete,
I got your email and I think the answers from Mark pretty much cover it. If the distributor has its stock points you can only use a 3-pin Bosch CDI. The later 6-pin Bosch box will not work since they expect a VR sensor signal instead of points. Maybe the Permatune has some sort of setting where the 6-pin version works with either points (early car) or VR sensor signals (SC) not sure. On the 3-pin Bosch the middle terminal is switched +12V from the ignition, the housing terminal is GND. Terminal A goes to the coil and terminal C goes to the points. As soon as terminal C is shorted to GND the box should release a spark. Good luck, Ingo
