OK experts what have we here - 3.0 case

Attached (hopefully) are 3 pics. All are of the area at the oil pump. First shows what I have always seen in that area. The next 2 pics show the same area different case but there is a circular metal rotating disc that opens and closes freely with no springs or anything. Never seen this. Maybe I wasn't looking closely enough. Can someone explain what that is?
Hopefully the pics will attach. I am not particularly good at the attachment thing.

Told ya I wasn't good at the pic thing. The pic of the "normal" case didn't make it. I'll try again.

The 3 first are from a pre 76 mag case with an oil bypass modification?
