brake pad crumbling

I pulled out the front brake pads to check condition and found two of them crumbling along the edges. The pads are Ferodo street pads. Obviously these need replacement. My question is, was I dumb to disturb the pads or lucky I checked them?

I have 12 DEs and roughly 10k street miles on the pads. I added 993 cooling deflectors and removed the splash plates about 4 events ago to improve cooling. I've never had issues with fade or fluid boiling (ATE blue/gold).

I'm searching for recommendations for replacement pads, and am open to suggestions.

Thanks.

Crumbling like that is often a result of overheating. There are numerous pads which will hold up better than stock type street pads . Hawk,Pagid Perf fr. all offer HD pads.

I think it's good you checked them. It could have been bad later on down the road.

Find some that are better for your track days. As a fairly mellow street driver, I can't help, but the forum will provide, as it always does.

Good luck!

Thats from gross overtemps.

Ferodo makes several types of pads and if those are either OEM replacements, DS 2000 or DS 2500, they are not the ones to use for DE events.

Given the operating temperatures of SC brakes on the racetrack, you need something like Pagid Orange, or if you like, Ferodo DS3500.

Mr. Weiner, I appreciate your diagnosis and recommendation.

Ed, you're right, but in this case it is turn 15 (coming off the front straight at Texas World Speedway. YouTube - TWS CW 911SC

Thanks all for the comments.

Pagid Orange work great but can cause glazing, and don't have a very long life. Hawk Blue also work great, maybe better than Pagid, but shed allot of very corrosive material.
