Bodywork cost question
Anyone know how much it would cost to go from a quality done turbo look back to the original look (1969 911s), assuming you dont have the original parts? Not including paint job

A well done turbo look has welded flares on the quarter panels. Your choices are to weld the original ones back (not a great choice - but a choice) or to replace the quarter panels with original ones. The quarter panels are going to be the expensive part. Move the latch back down for the long hood, replacing the fron fenders, etc., not unreasonable. It's the quarter panels and your decision as to how they will be done that are going to cost you.
I'm not going to give you an estimate, just advice that you explicity detail this important part of the project so that you and the builder are on the same page. The difference is $$$ and resale on a potentially valuable car. I cannot over stress the value of a parts car for this. Look for a 912 with rotten floors and a dead engine (I know, I'm a heretic)... angela

Considering its a '69S, whatever the cost will be money well spent. I would guess 2-4K. Let me now if you want to sell the rear flairs.

Good looking car. Lots more than $4K though. Really going to have to collect a lot of parts or a good parts car to make it happen. Looks like mirrors, interior, etc were changed as well as the fenders, bumpers, quarterpanels, etc. Also will need paint. Got some good parts to sell though. Does it have the original engine/tranny?

Why not just go to an early RSR look? You are almost there. The hard stuff is done.
Add some light boxes to those fenders, a pair of bumpers plus a hood and you are pretty much there.

I do not have the original trans and engine, wish I did.
The plan so far is to turn back the body(not fiberglass), assuming its affordable, then decide on the engine. Right now its running a turbo engine, with a 915 transmission would 5k cover the body parts, lights, bumpers and welding etc etc? |

For reason of not having original engine and tranny - make hot rod and enjoy.
To turn back into 69S using original parts ( buying part by part ) you'll end up close to 15-20k parts alone. Donor 912 - would make a difference. I would make early hot rod or RS, even RSR look and had a blast. BTW car, in current condition, is good looking car. my 2c

Personal opinion, since you dont have the drivetrain, its not really worth trying to make it back into an original car. Its just simply not cost effective. Of course, you could sell all the parts on it now, or make into a long hood look with the same drivetrain, but this will be big project.

It is a pretty great car as is...and would be a dream car to someone exactly as is. If you really want an original early car, you would be better off to sell this one and buy a less modified car.

I think that selling that motor and the other parts will yield you a large portion of the costs to put it back to original. I might even be interested in the motor (for my hot rod).

It depends what was done to the front tub. If it was changed to G (1974MY) pieces. ALOT more than just dealing with the flairs. If you want it correct.
Plus one on flinstone's 2nd comment. |

Since this car does not have the body / look / wheels / engine that you want, is it feasible to just sell it and buy what you want. Whats a 69 worth in comparison?

A perfectly restored 69S can sell for over $100K.

...and cost almost that much for a "perfect restoration"...although none if the numbers will match on this car, so the restoration will cost just as much, but the car would be worth considerably less than if you started with a car with an intact drivetrain or even a few original parts.
