Craigslist Find-- Whatcha Think?
hey, i am a 928 owner and i want to get into 911's. What do you guys thing of this ad i found on craigslist? Is he asking way too much? what should i look for in a 911 when i am buying one used?
http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/2329226929.html and on another note, if you guys have any 911's you want to trade me for a 1923 t-bucket, please let me know. I have a '23 fiberglass Ford T-bucket. It has a fresh Ford 302 small block, BDS 6-71 blower, full Mallory ignition, Ford C6 trans, Ford 9-inch rear end, racing cams, 3500 stall converter, CSR performance water pump, hand spun aluminum 15 gallon fuel tank, hand airbrushed paintjob done by Danny Beckham and a lot more bits. brand new leather interior, wood dash, and floor. i can go on and on. Its got a paint chip on the back of the body that is about 1-1/2 inches. It leaks transmission fluid because it needs a new gasket. And it needs a more powerful electric fan to keep the engine from overheating. Asking $10,000 obo. i understand the times we are in so the price is somewhat lenient. So if any of you guys have a 911 that you would want to trade, please let me know http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...dedrastic1.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/DSC02524.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/DSC02543.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/DSC02539.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/DSC02535.jpg Me showing off the car to a friend from Germany: http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/DSC05638.jpg |
Geez...that 928s been hit by the JC Whitney catalog of tastelessness. Why would you want your 928 to look like a Nissan from the front?
Run away! |
$10k for that turd-wagen?
Here's a few I found (at half price of yours) on a cursory search of Craigslist. You need to do more lookin'... porsche 1986 Porsche 928 S 1981 Porsche 928 1980 Porsche 928 P.S. - Ford made fiberglas bodies in '23? |
What you need more than a bigger fan is a tighter air shroud.
As is, most of the air slips around the radiator. Then the fan in the back pulls the air from all over the place. If you had a really good shroud, all the effort of the fan would be to pull the air through the radiator - which is the ultimate goal. I know the shroud won't look right for a bucket. But, them is the facts. I've had a lot of experience with this on an English car with a V8 shoved into it (Sunbeam Tiger). |
this is the 911 technical forum. if you want to buy trade, there's a 911 FS forum. but that 928 looks horrific.

HAHA... woops. i didnt mean to post that one..... let me fix the link... sorry guys.

The '77 targa you refer to looks like a dog. Even for $6,500 it is not worth it. You could throw $20,000 at a car like that and still it would look worn out. There are much better buys on the For Sale forum for not much more than the asking price of the '77 and you would have a much better car. Just my opinion and no offence if the targa is the car of your dreams.

This has been discussed a thousand times. Here's the key result of the 1000 discussions:
Every 911 is a $20k car one way or another and don't ever skip a pre-purchase inspection by a workshop that knows air cooled 911's. In addition to that, I'd say spend six months reading and looking at classifieds before you buy anything. Thats just my opinion, but since looking at buying Porsches is a fun way to pass time its not a bad idea. I'd also say don't buy on ebay. In my experience the only cars on Ebay wont sell through regular channels. Check out the forum here, there are a few other good sites too. |

Wouldn't be caught dead in either (nor a 914). |
EIPtuning,
I advise you to look at some other 911's before you pull the trigger. The one in the link does not look very promising... Well, I promise you it will cost you some more before you get it on a nice condition. (also, I would be careful when browsing CL) Don't take the 928 bashing too seriously. We're good people and if you need help or info to make your fisr first 911 purchase, you'll certainly get that here. Look for information before you look for an actual car, educate yourself. |

To the OP: if you're looking for a serious project, that red 911 you linked may give you all you can handle. That said, I wouldn't pay more than $3000 for it from the looks of it. There are better 911s out there for that price

I like that Targa, go check it out. It's rare to see a widebody Targa. Bargain him down and have a great time fixing it up, looks like you're a technical guy anyways, go check it out.
