I recently read a message on Pelican that described some nasty situations involving unscrupulous Porsche mechanics in the Kelowna area . I would like to share a Porsche mechanic story with any one who lives in the Okanagan . I met Allan (mechanic) by word of mouth in a completely unrelated situation about 5 years ago . My poor 74 911S was rusted out and burning more oil than gas ! Her beauty was not apparent to your average person , including my wife , who thought this piece of belching rust would never recover from its "terminal" decay !!I introduced myself and my 911S to Allan one sunny spring afternoon . I remember this because Allan had a few clients with him at the time discussing matters of the Porsche universe and they ALL turned around to find out what this "thing" was coming in the drive way !! Allan works on new , old , exotics , restorations , and "almost" hopeless causes ..... me !! So this was nothing new for him ! But the looks on the other faces said it all !!! I heard thing like ... let it go buddy !! do you have any idea what that will cost !! some things you just have to let go !! Allan just smiled and said ... if we could all afford the new ones no one would need me !! That was the start of a relationship that I'm proud to say is still ongoing , not to say we don't have our disagreements !!! I don't think any of you would believe me if I said nothing EVER goes wrong !! Its how you deal with the problems that makes or brakes the deal . Allan let me work on my car with him !! Sanding , scraping , sweating , cursing ... can you think of another Porsche mechanic that would let you work with him !!! Unique to say the least ........ My car now is a fully restored 1974.5 911S with RSR front bumper (activated oil ) and RSR rear tunnel wing and many , many other parts my wife will never know about !!! ( I hope ) . This car took many people to get it to the state its in , but my number one contributor was my friend and mechanic ... Allan Monti !!! ps. Allan and I are presently in the middle of an engine swap .... the 2.7S and 950 trany are out , and a 3.2 with a G50 trany are going in !!! Very exciting and very difficult !! pss. Allan can be reached at 250-768-1001 , Westbank. Thanks for your time , Mark |

I've been dealing with Allan for over 20 years now, off and on , depending on where along the road of porsche ownership I am. even when I phone out of the blue after long absences he's always willing to help, answer questions, give advice. a truly good guy. Don ( ps. Allan, if you read this , that ugly yellow thing I had when I saw you last now looks like this, Don.)

Hi guys,
I am new to the site and a new 911 owner in the Valley. I can identify with your story as I too am looking for a mechanic and a place to take my 1987 911 Cabriolet. If Alan is still in business and taking new clients I would like to have his contact info. Thanks in advance, Ken |

I also will give Allan a high recommendation, great guy and see him quite often at Whiski Jacks
over a beer or two. Typically Allan is very choosey with who and what cars he works on but does however love Porsches. If anyone is interested I will ask him if he wants to take on additional work, there maybe a chance of this as last time I talked to him things were quite slow for him. |
