Front Boge "Insert" Guts
Here's a picture of the "inserts" from the front Boge strut which uses the strut housing tube as the shock absorber casing. No sealed insert here. Just in case somebody was curious, now he'll know what to expect.
This setup gets a little messy when you're replacing your inserts, as I was not expecting so much oil (maybe a 1/2 quart total for both struts) to be in the housing. I only expected a little oil! It was everywhere. Have a drain pan handy. I didn't. Just a measly shop rag. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...s/Mvc-509s.jpg Bilstein HD green replacement inserts go right in with NO problems. |
Hmmm. Are you sure those are stock 1987 Boge's? All the Boge's on the later (`87+) cars I have seen had sealed gas (Bilstein, Sachs, etc.) cartridge-type inserts. I thought the oil-filled tubes were used on the earlier struts. Someone please enlighten me.

I had exactly the same inserts as shown in the picture in my stock Boge's on my 89 Targa. It took one old cotton T-Shirt for each side to soak up the oil. Nice and green...

Yep, those are the original Boge parts. Period correct Porsche part number stamped right there on the tubes.
