Porsche Crest Motive power bleeder question

I read on this thread pinch off that you need to pinch off the overflow hose.. I'm assuming this is one other than the one right on top of the reservoir. Can anyone point me in the direction of what needs "pinching"?

It is the hose on the top of your reservioir that points to the driver.

Note nipple on left side top of reservior.

Just connect the power bleeder and pump it up. You will find the hose real quick.

I did!

clamp it, for sure,..be sure NOT to damage or compromise it when doing so.

Doesn't take boatloads of pressure, BTW,,,cover your interior bonnet nicely,..so as to prep for worst case!!!!!!! Especially if it's your first time......There was guy who pumped great amounts of pressure and created one helluva (unprotected) mess on his carpet......of course, this is gorilla intelligence, magnified....funny read, I must say.

I like this methodology,....I may say goodbye to it soon, once the speed bleeders are installed,..but it has served me well.

Best,

Doyle

+! on what he said as to the location.

I used a pair of small locking pliers having first wrapped the tube with an old polishing cloth so as to eliminate damage to it.

Worked a treat.

I installed speedy bleeders too on the front calipers.

Sounds like you're using a new Motive, in which case the plastic hoses on it should be in good shape. Mine was about six years old when it blew a hose under normal pressure last summer... not a fun experience to clean up. Anyone reading this: if your Motive is more than five years old, go to Home Depot, buy new plastic hose and replace it before it blows!

I use a 3" piece of hose with a bolt hose clamped in one end and just pop off the overflow hose and clamp on my blocker hose. I believe those pics are of an older car, my SC's hose points to the fuel filler area.

Ditch the Motive, and use speed bleeders!

I like the speed bleeders idea, but haven't tried them.
I use the Motive system but don't put fluid in the bottle to avoid all sorts of situations where fluid can get where you don't want it. This also reduces the clean up. This method requires watching the level and taking the cap on and off to refill. For a car that nice I would not risk putting fluid in the Motive canister.

Why not just connect the pressure bleeder to the vent hose?

[QUOTE=911pcars;5756231]Why not just connect the pressure bleeder to the vent hose?

Sherwood,
You could do that, but in my opinion it's easier to use the filler cap orifice and just crimp the overflow.

I also agree with hcoles re using only air pressure,, not fluid in the bleeder. I only went up to 10 psi and my pedal is firm and high...much improved.

I must have more money than sense because I bought and installed speed bleeders and bought the motive.....what was I thinking??? LOL

At least I can do the flush quickly and use the speed bleeders to fine tune.

I agree, wish I could say it is mine but it is not, it is Bob Tilton's.

You need two bleeding systems to remove air bubbles? If so, rethink strategy, and don't forget to crimp the vent hose. BF loves paint.

MHO.

Sherwood....
No I don't need two systems for brake bleeding; I was just realising that I had in effect purchased two systems by buying and installing the sped bleeders, AND bought the Motive bleeder....

I suppose now I can choose which one depending on how lethargic I am feeling

those things pump up so slowly that i drilled a hole in the top and installed a metal tire valve stem. about 2 seconds with the air hose instead of 2 minutes hand pumping.

JW...that is definitely the way to go if anyone already has a compressor in the garage....unfortunately I do not....

JW probably bleeds more brakes in a week then I'll do in a lifetime so the pumping isn't all bad. A small C clamp works great to close the vent hose.

HF sells plastic hose pinch pliers. I got a set of three sizes for like $5, they've come in handy other times.
