'88 930 Will not start.. any ideas?

A friend's (non pelican) 930 will not start. Recently he started it, and let it sit idling. It quit and has not started since. It is getting fire at the coil, and fire at the plugs. From the smell of the exhaust it seems like it is getting fuel. My first though was the DME relay, so I pulled mine from my Carrera but seems a different DME set up. ( Rookie mistake thinking they would be the same, or does this mean aftermarket swap ?)

Btw, the engine turns over just fine, but there is no firing at all. Any thoughts on where to look ? Thanks yaz

The 88 turbos are CIS so start your troubleshooting with the correct procedure.

A very goo d place to start is spark however. Pull a wire, put an old plug in it, attach it somehow rube goldberg to the engine (ground) and see if it lights up nice and blue as you crank it.

+1 with Rick. I fabricated a jumper wire for this task, it's about the safest way to test for spark. Use a wire with a clamp on each end. Pull a wire and use a good known plug, that way you won't have to actually pull an existing plug from your motor. Use one clamp of the jumper at the base of the plug, and attach the other jumper clamp to a good ground on the motor. Have someone turn the key and observe the spark from a safe distance.

Thanks guys. I will pass along the advice.

I will tell him to quit prolonging the inevitable and become a member. Way to much valuable info to sit on the sidelines. Thanks again.

If it has a DME, it's not CIS......
