Red face Where to find early Manual Sunroof Crank??

This is, of course, related to my other post about my sunroof going dead.

I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find a Manual Sunroof Crank for a '71. Having never seen one, I don't know if they are very specialized tool, or if it's easy to find something else that works just as well.

The only time I'd ever have to close the sunroof is when I race in the rain, which happens maybe 3 times a year here in San Francisco during our normal autocross season. My sunroof just died today, but it wouldn't really be that big of a deal if I knew I could manually close it when I need to.

Are you sure you don't have one? The reason I say this is because I thought I needed one until I found out that if you unzip the headliner over the rear seats, low and behold, the sunroof crank.

Maybe yours is there.

I'm not so sure about this Wayne. In the owners manual of my 1988 it specifically states that the sunroof crank is in the headliner.

It might be in the toolkit for earlier 911s. Anyone know when the switch was made?

You know, I just assumed it wouldn't be there, but I didn't actually check to make sure.

Boy, will I feel stupid if it's already sitting there... but a kind of happy/stupid...

Sander:

When you go to look for it, the manual states something about it being behind a cover or some such thing.

If you can't find it let me know and I will post the exact text from the manual if you think that will help.

Good Luck.

And don't feel stupid. I almost ordered one from Porsche for $90 when I decided to look for one on Ebay. I couldn't find one there either. One night I was reading the manual and just happened to come across this. I would of felt stupid AND been out $90.
