megasquirt issue

I finally upgraded my tbitz Megasquirt 1 with new firmware MS1 Extra to get 12x12 fuelling table. The car has been running great with 8x8 table now the last 12000 miles but I still decided I had to mess with it !

The download and install of the new firmware went fine and after entering all the parameters and the new fuelling table it started right up and it ran fine too. Now, the day after there is a problem though, the ECU cuts out and resets at random and the car is undriveable. The screen on the laptop with the Megatune software shows the ECU flickering on and off constantly as the car lurks along. With ignition on but engine not running it appears to be stable again. EDIT; it was still doing it but harder to notice

I made no other changes to anything on the car, except with the firmware, otherwise I would have thought it might have to do with power supply to the ECU

This may not be the right forum but don't really know where to go with this one.

Advice anyone ?

EDIT; after spending a few hours reading up on the MS forums I disconnected the RS232 cable from the ECU and that fixed it ! Engine is now running fine as ever !!

Reload the former mapping.....see what it does. If runs OK, reload the upgrade. Go from there.

Could be a corrupt download.....

+1 for reloading the firmware

I run a microsquirt for the Formula SAE car team that i design for. We have had some similar issues. Reloading the firmware did fix it once. Another time the power input had been fried and we had to replace the unit. Micro squirt makes good stuff at a good price but i will admit it has its issues some times.

best of luck

I did try to reload firmware, no change.

The engine cuts right out as if the ignition was switching off and then back on quick. I'll try isolating the ignition from the injection and make changes to power and ground supply just to isolate the problem. Hard to think it's coincidence that this issue comes up at at the same time as the firmware upgrade. After the upgrade I did notice that the engine tends to shudder and miss a few beats every time I hit burn to ECU, a thing it didn't do under the MS1 firmware. This problem is more pronounced, not mere shuddering or missing a beat or two. This is more like throwing the master switch

EDIT; happy news; after spending a few hours reading up on the MS forums I disconnected the RS232 cable from the ECU and that fixed it ! Engine is now running fine as ever !! Must have been something wrong with the cable. It works fine with a different cable
